August 29 2005 -- A burst of joy, sort of.
|
So here we are yet again, another week and another batch of stuff to talk about. Over the weekend the first of my friends got married and I spent the reception nursing a headache with Xanax and tequila shots from a Latin bartender I ended up calling Esteban after about 6 shots. Now that there is a combination to write home about, drugs and booze, those two go together in just about any situation. Today we will try out a combination that is a little bit less exciting then the one I spent time with at the wedding reception, less exciting but a tad more healthy. Once again a company has taken something that has been around for decades, tweaked it just a little bit, given it a fancy new box and put it out on the shelves for us to buy. Sometimes this does not work out too well but sometimes change is a good thing. So how about this time? Is it going to be a pile of garbage that ruins a long standing brand name or will it just add to the experience? Lets find out.

Yogurt Burst Cheerios, strawberry flavor. So there you have it, one of the two new kinds of cheerios out there at the moment (the other being a banana flavor of the same thing). Over time we have seen quite a few different modifications of the whole Cheerio thing including, Honey Nut Cheerios, Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, Multi-Grain Cheerios, Frosted Cheerios, Team Cheerios, and Berry Burst Cheerios. Can this newcomer stand next to its predecessors proudly or will be let down the family?
I poured some out into my hand to see what this box of cheer contained. The first thing I noticed was that there are not a whole lot of yogurt covered pieces in there. Maybe 1 for every 20, but using my super small sample size of about 25 I don't think it's too scientific. I got worried that the whole yogurt thing was just a gimmick (which it is) and that they were trying to get out of giving us any yogurt pieces. But lets pour a bowl and find out. Looking at the picture I took it seems that my 1 for every 25 theory is totally busted, but hey, like I said, it's not too scientific. Maybe just the first handfull comes out lacking but if you keep working it you will get a bowl filled with yogurt goodness.
Not bad, if I do say so myself, which I just did. The yogurt pieces are indeed infrequent but they add a nice light flavor to the whole Cheerio experience. Its not overpowering and its not so subtle that you cant even taste them. I would have liked a few more in there but as it is now it's almost just right. Unlike my last experience in new cereal adventures this is one that I think most people would like Cheerios would enjoy. 3.5 cheeses. Lost that .5 for just having too few yogurt Cheerios.
