January 8 2005 -- Uncle Tom's McGriddles
|
Well, maybe not Uncle Tom but just as good, Aunt Jemima!
Walking through my local grocery store I came across this new gem of an item. Imagine, McDonalds McGriddles in the comfort of your own home! That was the idea at least, did it deliver? Lets find out.
Opening up the box we find four small frozen nonMcGriddle McGriddles. Pancakes as buns, egg, cheese and sausage.
They seem pretty small compared to what everyone is used to in their McGriddle breakfast sandwiches but that isn't that big of a concern considering there are 4 of them. According to the box there is two ways of making these things. A minute in the microwave or a whopping 35 minutes in the oven. 35 minutes! I sure feel sorry for people who don't have microwaves.
Anyway, we (PatBoyX) and I decided to try one from the microwave and one from the oven and compare.
The microwave one came out pretty good, much better then a lot of other microwave crap that I have had before.
For the most part it tasted just like one from McDonalds. One problem I tasted was that the whole maple syrup flavor that was supposed to be present was very minimal. This was easily fixed by pouring over some more Aunt Jemima maple syrup found in the fridge. Once we did that it tasted pretty good.
Then came the oven trial. I think the 35 minutes is long enough for most people to not bother with it. It actually tasted worse then the microwave version, a total shocker for us. When we took it out of the oven the pancakes had become quite brittle, sort of like toast. I wouldn't reccomend this way at all. Poor poor people.
So, rating?
Microwave way gets 3 out of 5 before I put on the extra syrup and 4 out of 5 afterwards.
So that's uh, 3.5 average.

Oven way gets 2. Don't bother with it.
