December 14 2005 -- Going greek. The seasons are changing and the people here at work are leaving for bigger and better things. One guy left a few months ago and just when everyone thought they had finally gotten over the loss of him on the team yet another person decides to call it quits and get a new job. With him goes all of his knowledge on Linux and everyone is left picking up the pieces of his projects. Luckily also being picked up is all of the food he had in his desk. From granola bars to teas to cough drops, a whole treasure of things were left for the cubicle pirates to plunder. While looking through the assorted piles on peoples desks of the things taken I came across something that was truly a diamond in the rough, at least for us here at 78west anyway. It sat just calling out to me and of course I had to partake.

"NEW!" it yelled out to me. It was as if this pink package was a siren on the high seas. I could not resist it's call. Was my throat even hurting? Nope. Did I really even want to have a strawberry flavored Halls cough drop? Not at all. But once you see that NEW on the package you can't turn back. Once your eyes are locked on you can't turn away. Glancing to see if anyone was around I picked up the bag, put my hand deep inside it, and pulled out a pink morsel of chemical goodness.

There it was in all of it's naked glory. A pink little beast just waiting to be eaten. How would it taste? Would it satisfy my hunger? Would it calm my thoat with a soothing sensation unknown to a person like me?

Well. No.

Much like the Sirens of the sea who make you belive that you will be jumping to something beautiful and wonderful only to be struck down my rough tide and jagged rocks these Halls provided all that partook in them with nothing but disappointment. Now while it might not be as bad as jumping to your death due to some magical Nymph the Halls were a let down in their own way. Sure, they were pink and looked beautiful but once you got to know them you were left sad. Normally I am used to Halls being powerful and strong, just like the commercials with the big strapping hairy shirtless Russian men. (Mmmm... big strapping hairy shirtless Russian men.)

Yep.

So the Strawberry flavored Halls are very sweet, almost like it wants to be candy. They taste like a combination of bad strawberry imitation sugar free candy and a hint of cough drop flavor. Lacking was any sort of cooling or reliving feeling. Just to make sure I knew what I was talking about I had a regular menthol drop right afterwards. Actually, I am having that drop right now as I am writing this up. Much better than it's pink counterpart. Even though my throat feels find you can feel the cooling action and a deep breath in gives you a nice calm chill.

2 cheesi for the Strawberry flavored Halls. They might do it for some people who dislike the original (working) flavors but if you have a sore throat I'd say stick with what works.

1 cheese for my bad attempt at pirate and Greek mythology references. Maybe I'll try better next time.
