October 1 2004 -- The Story of Ricky
When you though the Asians were not crazy enough, we are proud
to bring you:
The Story of Ricky
WOW!
What can I say about this movie? It was the most horrific thing I have ever seen in my life and I loved it. This movie is just so bad, so bloody, and so completely weird, one must be very drunk, very high, or completely insane to even think of trying to comprehend the plot. But then again, in a movie where someone rips out his own intestines to fight another man, who needs deep meaningful plot? You have probably seen parts of this movie yourself and not even known it. Back in the day on Comedy Central, The Daily Show used to show a clip from it - the exploding head scene right before 4 the five questions bit. Well, the rest of the movie is just like that, actually, it is much more intense. In it we have odd dream sequences, a gay ninja (we think anyway, because even the dubbing sounds fruity), flesh being cut off, stomachs being imploded, people exploding, I think that Mortal Kombat might have been based off this move in some ways as well as there is a guy with a Scorpion-like spear weapon.
Oh yeah, the plot, well, it goes something like this:
There is a man named Rikky who is thrust into a maximum security prison, but as in maximum security I mean the prisoners are free to wander about as much as they feel like it. For some reason the cells that are more of a convenience for them, a place for them to sleep. The prison is controlled by 4 leaders, each with their own special power. One is big and buff, one is, well, bigger and buffer, one is gay, and one likes to cut things. The warden is - oops, can't tell you that part, you need to make it to the end of them movie yourself. As for his son though, the first thing out of most people's mouths when they see him is "FAT BASTARD!" - ala Austin Powers.
Anyway, Ricky is a master is some strange kung-fu that allows him to heal any wound he receives, and by that, I do mean ANYTHING, and goes on a crazy revenge filled rampage throughout the prison because he feels great sympathy for a fellow prisoner killed. Let it be known that he never actually knew the other prisoner. Personally, I feel that this part of the plot was simply a way of justifying the wanton violence prevailing throughout this entire movie.

(more if it was allowed, and this is going to be one of the most violent movies you have ever seen)
Buy this movie, invite over all your friends, and prepare yourself for a hilarious trip into Japanese Shock Movie Culture, you will not be disappointed, I guarantee it.

September 28 2004 -- CRISPY!
Well, it's that time again, time for a featured review here on The Message Whore. Today I present to you a wonderful new candy introduced to me by none other then the master of new products himself, Avi Gold.. Butterfinger Crisp.

At first glance we see the familiar Butterfinger logo and the same Butterfinger orangy-yellow color on the edges of the wrapper that we have come to know and love over the years. Below the logo we have in orange and yellow the word "Crisp" tilted at an upward angle and underlined by a likewise angled line. To me I feel that the type of lettering used and the angle along with the high energy color is being used to attract newer and younger eaters to the butter finger family. The holdovers of the original logo and coloring scheme is a way to bring back people already familiar with the Butterfinger brand.
Opening up the package we find the candy itself:

Looking more like a 100 Grand bar in texture this new Butterfinger is already lighter to the touch. You can feel that it is less dense and will provide the eater with a much fluffier experience. Breaking open the bar we find why this is..

Wafers!! You can see the three strips of the familiar "Butterfinger Candy Creme" (as the wrapper calls it) but also notice the four stripes of wafers! And that, my friends, is the secret to this new candy. In tasting it I think it can be best described as Butterfinger flavored Kit Kat bar (or if you know your stuff, replace the caramel in a Lion Bar with the
Butterfinger stuff). Or perhaps just think of yourself eating one of those flavored wafer candies except instead of being strawberry or chocolate it is Butterfinger. I have eaten four of these things so far, one during the writing of this and three in the car when I first bought them (which was a pain in the butt by the way, took me searching five stores all over the place to finally track them down at a Target on RT 28 in Somerset). Two bars = 200 calories which is insane, but eh, I suppose its to be expected. I think my limit on them during a single sitting is two. Three and you are pushing it. I say that because they leave a bit of an aftertaste that I was not too fond of. A definite improvement we find over the original Butterfinger bars is that they do not form into a cement like solid in your mouth. If you have ever had a Butterfinger then you know what I am talking about, when you eat one you find yourself chiseling out the remnants from your mouth and teeth for a long long time. These eat much easier and besides for the funky aftertaste will leave nothing behind.
I rate this candy 3 and a half cheeses.

September 26 2004 -- Go
This update here is for Mr. Beattie and his love for the game Go. For some reason Mr. Beattie wants to be the Go champion of the world, but, for some reason Mr. Beattie keeps losing against computer controlled opponents. I think he needs to practice more. Some of you might ask, What is Go? I am sure you have all heard of it but to sum it up "Go is the oldest pure strategy game in the world. It is known as Baduk in Korea and WeiQi in China where the game started somewhere between 3,000 and 4,000 years ago. Today it is played in nearly every country"
The link I found here is for a site that has a CD image that makes your computer play Go. If you boot your PC off of the CD that you can make with the file they have on the site your system will become a Go playing machine, no harm to it or Windows or anything else. Give it a try, maybe you can become a better Go player then Mr. Beattie.
Hikarunix, and check out all the screen shots here.
