October 8 2004 -- Surgery Report - Day 1 Well, day one was the actual surgery. Got a phone call around 7am telling me that I could come in early and get to be the first surgery of the day. Not a bad deal, in earlier and then out earlier.

My mom drives me to the surgery center and I am still nice and calm. I check in and get taken to the prep room. Change into my gown, get me knee shaved, and get taken to the place when I will get my IV put in.

This is where things start to get hairy. Actually, the IV was the worst part of the entire day. They get my left arm ready and make it so a vein in my hand pops up. The nurse sticks in the needle, I feel a pinch, and then everything starts funky. My blood pressure dropped from 136 over something all the way down to 77 over something. My stomach starts to churn and I get really light headed. I feel like I am going to throw up and pass out at the same time.

The anesthesiologist came out and said it was a nervous response that happens in younger males. All the blood goes into this one nerve (starts wih a v, don't remember the name) and causes the brain to not get enough blood. The doc put some stuff into my IV that brought back up my blood pressure and then some other stuff to help me relax. Almost instantly gave me a drunk like feeling. I felt good and started to talk to everyone about everything.

Next stop was walking into the actual surgery room. I laid down on the table and started to talk to all the people in there. The anesthesiologist asked me about what women I wanted to dream about and what I thought of Britney Spears and Christiana Aguleria. I told him not to trick me like he did last time and actually tell me when he was going to knock me out. He said sure, no problem.

BOOM

All of a sudden I am in a different room laying on my back looking at the ceiling. Guess he tricked me after all. Waking up was a pain in the butt. Not as in physical pain but it was tough to do. I didn't really know what was going on and grumbled a whole lot. In about half an hour the stuff weared off and I was on my way back home.

The top of my leg was still completely numb so I felt no pain and couldn't feel the ice pack. I hadn't eaten since 1pm the day before so the hunger was starting to sneak up (it was noon at this point). I needed me some food but didn't know what I wanted. Somehow my mom read my mind and got me some White Castle and it was good. Also had some mac and cheese with it as well.

Bru came over a little while later (he said he'd be over in 30 minutes but somehow took 4 hours to get here instead) and I watched him play City of Heroes.

And that was that. He left, I took some pain medication, talked online with mbeattie and eventually went to sleep.

Not quite as eventful as I had hoped, but I suppose that is a good thing.
