So once again we have gone to the 78west.com southern command in the shadow of Washington, DC and we come back to the north with exciting new products that are sure to be legendary in the review world. Visiting the northern VA area I was introduced to a product unlike any you have ever seen and may never see again. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you..

Diet Pepsi Jazz. It’s a cola and it’s flavored. Mind blowing, isn’t it? Coming on both 2L bottles and your standard, um, whatever size the kind you get out of vending machines, Pepsi Jazz breaks new ground by taking your standard cola flavor and mixing in new flavors in attempt to win part of the critical flavored cola market. Did they do a good job? Will they jazz up Pepsi much like Zataran jazzed up rice or will they end up being washed out of the market by forces stronger than the corporate machine?
Well, with two flavors on the shelf and a third lime flavored one rumored on the internet, Pepsi Jazz is trying to catch our eyes and our taste buds with their flashy packaging, hip name, and exciting flavors. But then again, jazz really isnt that hip, or perhaps it is so hip that it is well beyond the regular realm of hip that most of us live in. Either way that doesn’t matter, what we should be concerned about are the flavors.
Let’s start with the black cherry and vanilla one. It tastes like black cherry Coke, except with more flavor. I guess they really ramped up the chemicals on this one, the cherry and the vanilla flavor come out strong and takes us to a nice familiar place.
Strawberries and cream is a whole different story. This one is completely packed with flavor, so much to the point that it almost tastes like candy. The closest thing I could compare it to is Southern Comfort. Hmm, good idea, how about we just put some Soco into the drink and try it out. It mixes well, the Soco blends very nice into the drink and it goes down smooth, still doesn’t taste very good, but for anyone out there drinking underage and looking for a way to mix up something they can pound while hanging out in their parent’s basement, this might be a great way to do that.
For the rest of us I’d say try it once and don’t bother much again. The black cherry one is okay but the flavors overpower the cola, the strawberries and cream one is just a strange chemical mess, you might as well get some strawberry soda and call it a day. I am sure the mixture of cola and intense flavors will work for some people, but for us in the labs it just did not work as well as other cola mixtures, Coca Cola Black being the latest and greatest.
This product gets a big over all meh from us.
2.5 cheeses overall.

You read my mind on the Southern Comfort thing. I’ve tried the two together a number of times…not the best use of SoCo, but not bad either. I give it two thumbs up, with or without SoCo. And the black cherry variety rules…it’s right on up there with Coke’s black cherry vanilla. Love ‘em both.
